Carcassonne

Those of you who have traveled to Normandy with me before would instantly recognize the streets of this medieval fortified city - they have the same look as those of Mont. St. Michel.  I had high expectations of Carcassonne, having never been there but having read about it extensively.  It did not fail to impress.  Especially after dark, when the ramparts were lit up and we had the whole fortified city to ourselves!  We actually stayed within the walls of the old town in a youth hostel with about 100 grade 2 kids from Paris - that was fun at dinner!  Our kids practiced their French language skills and chatted with les petit enfants.
